What Is The Word (aka Blog) – Trenton Project Edition – October 11, 2012

Well, what can i say. I launched my Trenton Project Indiegogo campaign 8 days ago and it has truly surprised me. A lot of work went into the campaign and it started with a vision and a plan. This was months of work. Coming up with an idea, finding artists that could help create artwork, shooting a short film, setting up an on-line payment account, setting up a website. To see it live is one thing, but to see friends, strangers want to support this project, support me, actually invest money in this or any project is humbling. I also appreciate the social media help. Posting the link to your Facebook page, re-tweeting the link and more. Any and all help is welcomed.

I worked hard to get to this point but I didn’t get here on my own. I had friends who helped me write press releases, correct my grammar, took time out of their schedule to meet with me to discuss this project and much, much more. To these folks, I say ‘Thank You’.

I know most of you who are not familiar with these crowdfunding campaigns, it would seem that the campaign is over. This is not the case. My goal was to raise $1000 during the length of the campaign. I have raised this and I am fortunate but the campaign still rolls on. The campaign runs for 30 days. I will still push forward for the entirety of the campaign to tell people about the campaign, about the project, the perks and more. My goal is still to sell artwork, CD’s, haircuts and more. It’s still my job to tell as many people as possible about the project. It’s still my goal to tell as many people as possible about myself, my music, everything. No one should ever say ‘Well, I’ve made it to Point X, I should stop’. This project and goal is not a destination. It’s part of the journey. It’s one step in the journey. To be a full-time musician, or an artist, or a business, you have to sell, promote yourself 24/7. It doesn’t stop. It will never stop. It may become annoying seeing me promote myself on social media or in person, but it’s what I have to do.

I’ve learned a lot about myself in the making of this project. I have more learning ahead of me……

What Is The Word (aka Blog) – Audio Blog – October 4, 2012

Audio blog for October 4, 2012. Talking* about Day 2 of Trenton Project Indiegogo Campaign and progress of recording the Trenton EP.

* Oh, see you popped on to the site to hear me talk about the project. Well, it was good. A fantastic blah, blah, blah something something something and now i deleted the audio part of this post. Sorry.

Trenton Project Crowdfunding Campaign

The Trenton Project Indiegogo campaign is underway. You can find the campaign here. There is a short film from Andrew Fleming (his website) to accompany the campaign. Watch the film, have a look at the perks, tell your friends, share on your social media feeds. The campaign will run for 30 days. I hope you can be a part of it.

I’ve added a page to this site called Trenton Project Crowdfunding Perks which will show you all the artwork associated with the campaign.

I’d like to thank all the artists, musicians, friends who have helped me get this far with the project. No one makes it on their own without help. I am very fortunate. Thank you.

What Is The Word (aka Blog) Update – September 16, 2012

Well, what has been going on at Heartbreak A Stranger? A lot. Let me fill you in…..

I have been prepping the crowdfunding campaign, which is going to be launched in early October. I’ve decided to use the crowdfunding site Indiegogo. They will host the campaign. I’ve been working on some of the rewards you will receive for giving money on the campaign. Here’s a sample :

There are other rewards but you’ll have to wait until October to see the entire list of perks.

There is also a video to be uploaded to the crowdfunding site. IT was filmed by local filmmaker Andrew Fleming. We made a road trip to Trenton and shot some footage. I have not seen the footage yet.

I have been making some headway in the recording studio. In the past week I have been in the studio with local musician Julia Feltham recording some cello parts.

I’ve also been recording drum tracks with singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Kev Corbett. Drum tracks were laid down at Codapop Studios in Halifax. Really enjoyed working at Codapop. Here’s a taste of Kevin laying down drums :

I can see the finish line in the recording process. One instrument left to record, then it is on to mixing and CD duplication.

I am also a volunteer at the Music And Image portion of the Atlantic Film Festival. I was looking after some social media duties for the music and image part of the festival. Attend shows and use social media. I was born to play this role. I have been attending some local shows and it has been a lot of fun.

Feels good to be motivated and getting tasks accomplished.

Trenton Project Update – July 27, 2012

Here’s an update on the recording of the Trenton EP :

  • I’ve set a date to release the Trenton EP (I’m not ready to release the official date just yet) so I have put myself ‘on the clock’ to have all the projects in progress and / or wrapped up. Setting up a date means that a set of dominoes are set up and one has to fall before another drops. You should have dates / timelines written down but it also means you have to have everything lined up. A lot of juggling.
  • Still a lot of pre-marketing on the go. Making contacts and telling bloggers / social media folk about the Trenton Project and letting them know I am creating music. First step is a simple ‘hello’.
  • In the process of lining up a drummer, cello, and accordion player for the studio. Once again, trying to line up dominoes so the studio, musician, and my schedule line up at the same time.
  • I have a film maker set up to record a video for the crowdfunding campaign (tentatively set for mid-September). There will be shots of Trenton to tell a visual story of the Trenton Project. Also, the rewards for the crowdfunding campaign is coming along well. For example, for X amount you will receive Y.  There are lots of incentives to buy the Trenton EP early. I’m looking forward to the campaign.
  • Still meeting with artists to finalize CD artwork and artwork to be sold with the crowdfunding campaign. It’s still exciting to see art made by talented folks.

As you can see, still making some progress but the timeline has forced me to ratchet up the progress. I’ve put pressure on myself to get things done. It’s exciting and worrisome but its also a great challenge.

Trenton Project Artwork – Rd.5

Today I met with Caitlin McGuire (website) and received a sample of the pop-up book. Interesting to see the steps from paper to artwork. This is just one of the pop-up book. There will be three, all themed around The Trenton Project. Essentially, I gave Caitlin some photos and got out of the way. This is great artwork.
